Job
Stress
Job stress is out of control in the American workplace—
forty per cent of workers report that that their job
is extremely stressful. And job stress causes serious
health problems, problems that cause suffering and hardship
for employees and huge expenses for employers.
Just
- Say - KNOW
A coalition of 10 organizations, advocates, healthcare
professionals, academics and concerned citizens have
launched a campaign to get one million people to go
to their healthcare providers and ask, "What am
I really putting into my body? What are the side effects?
What are the alternatives?" The effort is called
Just Say "Know" to Prescription Drugs and
is driven by increasing evidence that many people are
uninformed about the potential side effects of their
prescribed medication and are not aware of less-risky
alternatives.
Marital
Stress Puts Woman's Heart Health At Risk
Marital stress and dissatisfaction go hand in hand with
heart problems for women — independent of other
risk factors such as high blood pressure and smoking.
Physical
Fitness
The positive health claims associated with body—
side or physical fitness such as intense aerobic workouts
and strenuous weight training are real-but they are
overstated and oversold for marketing purposes.
Relationship
Stress Causes Health Problems and More
Research shows that unhappy relationships can indeed
cause a lot of stress, a lot of stress that can cause
all kinds of health problems. The fact is that we get
tied to one another without appreciating how hard it
is to be in a long term relationship. It's a little
like trying to fly an F-15 jet without ever having been
taught how.
Infertility:
The Mindbody Connection
Sandra Berga, MD, infertility expert and chair of the
Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University
in Atlanta has demonstrated how the mindbody connection
plays a critical role for many couples trying to conceive.
A few of the links below report her results from different
vantage points.
Weight
Problems and Stress
Numerous studies have shown that cortisol, a potent
stress hormone, increases hunger for sugar and other
fattening foods, foods that lead to weight problems
and obesity for many people. Obesity is also linked
to a variety of serious mindbody health problems including
diabetes and depression.
Mindbody
Fitness, Spirit and Soul
As we expand our vision beyond the confines of a view
that imagines fitness in body-only terms, we begin to
see how narrow and superficial such a view is. First
of all, we now know that the body does not exist independently
from the mind-the mind and the body are an interdependent
unit-the mindbody. The Ancient Greeks knew this very
well-their fitness training aimed for deep mindbody
harmony and balance.
Whats
America's Number One Health and Fitness Problem?
Somewhere between 75 and 90 % of visits to primary care
physicians are for stress related mindbody problems.
Present day stress is so prevalent and so dangerous
because it stems from psychological-not physical sources.
We get stressed not by what happens in our life—
but by the way we see what happens in our life. And
our minds can ultimately create serious health problems—
-including heart disease and cancer.
